St. Bernadette



St. Bernadette (Bernadette Soubirous) was young visionary to whom the Blessed Virgin appeared in Lourdes in 1858. Bernadette joined the Sisters of Nevers, who operated a school in Lourdes, when she was 22 years old. She spent the rest of her life at the order's convent in Nevers, which is located near Lourdes. Born in 1844, St. Bernadette died in 1879 of tuberculosis of the bone, along with complications. Her body is incorrupt and lies in a coffin of gold and glass at the order's motherhouse in Nevers.
