Frederic was a young man who founded the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Paris in 1833. Originally called the Conference of Charity, the Society is an association of Catholic laity devoted to personal service of the poor through the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. Frederic was beatified by Pope John Paul II during World Youth Day '97, a fitting tribute to honor this young man during a worldwide gathering of other young men and women.
