The convent is attached to the church of San Damiano. This photo shows the window in the convent in which St. Clare held the Blessed Sacrament in a monstrance during an attack of the town by the Saracen soldiers of Frederick II who were devastating the towns in the neighboring Spoleto valley. Holding the monstrance in the window, St. Clare prayed for deliverance of her convent from these marauders. The soldiers, struck with panic, fled in terror. St. Clare died in 1253. Her feast day is celebrated on August 11th.
