The Eiffel Tower is one of the most famous landmarks of Paris. Designed and built by the French civil engineer Alexandre Gustave Eiffel for the Paris World's Fair of 1889, the tower is made of cast iron. It is 984 feet high, weighs over 7,000 tons, and has stairs and an elevator. Extremely solid, it sways less than 5 inches in the strongest winds. It also has a restaurant on the lowest of three observation deck platforms.
