Saint Vincent de Paul (1580-1660) was born in Poy, Franch, and tended sheep as a boy until he was sent to be educated by the Franciscans at Dax. He was called to the religious life and was ordained a priest in 1600. In Paris he founded the Vincentian order of priests and the Sisters of Charity, who helped in his work with the sick, the orphans, and the poor. He died in Paris in October, 1660, and was buried beneath the choir of the church in Saint Lazare. His body was exhumed in 1712 and found to be incorrupt, with only the eyes and nose showing any signs of decay. The bones are now encased in a wax figure in a reliquary in the chapel of the headquarters of the Vincentian fathers, Rue de Sevres, in Paris. His incorrupt heart is in a reliquary in the chapel of the Sisters of Charity, at Rue de Bac in Paris.
