Located on the top of the Temple mount, the Islamic "Dome of the Rock" was constructed on the site of the former Jewish Temple that was destroyed during the Roman destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. The Dome is built above the rock, Mount Moriah, on which Abraham is said to have been ready to sacrifice his son, Isaac. The shrine is built on the site of both the First and Second Temples. The shrine was built in 619 as a counter-attraction to the Moslem shrine in Mecca. The shrine contains the Well of Souls at which David, Solomon, Jesus and Abraham are all said to have prayed.
