Church of the Transfiguration

This photo shows the front of the Church of the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor. This Franciscan church, built in the 1920's, commemorates the event in the life of Jesus when He took His three favorite Apostles (Peter, James and John) up Mount Tabor and was trasfigured and seen talking with Moses and Elijah, representing the Law and the Prophets, about His impending death. The church is built on the ruins of Byzantine and Crusader churches. Inside is a beautiful mural of the Transfiguration. A Franciscan monastery is nearby.
