Located in Jerusalem, near Gethsemane, the Church of the Virgin is a Greek Orthodox church built in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. Located below the level of the present road, the church is on the spot where the Blessed Virgin's "dormition" (falling asleep and passing from earthly life to Heavenly life) occurred according to legend. The first church at this site was build in the early part of the 5th century.
