A view of the Valley of Death. The road connecting Jerusalem to the town of Jericho passed through this area in Biblical times. It is a winding, hilly road that lent itself to ambushes and tradition holds that this Valley was the inspiration for the 23rd Psalm. The road passes by what tradition holds is "the Good Samaritan's Inn", a wayside inn typical of many of the former inns in Palestine. Also along the road is the Monastery of St. George, a Greek Orthodox monastery that is built into a large cave in the face of a cliff.
